The Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company Plc (NMRC) has collaborated with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) to empower 50 unemployed youths with technical skills in housing construction and entrepreneurship as part of its 2020 Corporate Social Responsibility Program.

This year’s exercise marks the fifth batch of trainees that NMRC’s annual skills acquisition program delivered. The Vocational and entrepreneurship training is designed to achieve the dual purpose of enhancing the livelihoods of the youth while tackling the skills gap in the housing construction industry in Nigeria.

The beneficiaries underwent a two-months intensive training program in areas such as tiling, plumbing, electrical and POP Ceiling installations.

In his remarks at the closing ceremony of the vocational skills training program, the Managing Director of the NMRC, Mr Kehinde Ogundimu noted that the scheme is part of NMRC’s ongoing strategic community outreach program. Mr Ogundimu also noted that the exercise is in line with NMRC’s CSR policy of impacting lives, empowering unemployed and vulnerable persons as well contributing to ongoing efforts to address the dearth of qualified artisans in the building and construction industry in Nigeria.

The NMRC CEO, who was represented by the Head of ICT, Mr Taofeeq Olatinwo, thanked the management of the ITF for the continued partnership and timely completion of the training program. Mr Olatinwo also encouraged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the skills they have acquired to take their lives to the next phase.

Also speaking at the event, the Director-General, ITF, Mr. Joseph Ari thanked the NMRC for being a responsive sponsorship partner to ITF and sustaining the program over the course of five years now. Mr. Ari noted that the annual training programs are laudable and making constructive impact in the lives of the beneficiaries.

Mr. Ari, who was represented by the Area Manager, ITF, Alh Danladi Ahmed, called on other organizations to follow the example of the NMRC in the area of skill acquisition for Nigerian youths, adding that this would help address the unemployment rate in the country.
